Windows 10 Upgrade Offer
It has been almost a year since Microsoft launched Windows 10. During that time, Microsoft have been ceaselessly releasing updates and improvements to the operating system. Over the last couple of months, we have been busy testing and upgrading our clients' PCs to Windows 10.
As you may have heard, if you are running Windows 7 and above, you are eligible to upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge. Microsoft have been aggressively promoting this through the Windows Updates and advertising. They have recently announced that the offer will expire 29th July 2016.
There is still a window of opportunity to take advantage of this offer. You will require some prior testing and evaluation on a couple of PCs, to ensure that your apps will work in Windows 10 and also to work out the upgrade process to facilitate a smooth transition.
Some pitfalls to watch out for is a possible language and regional setting change when upgrading. The date format can revert to American format, necessitating you to change it back to the Australian/UK format. Some apps may not work properly in American date format.
Some printers may need to be re-installed manually. Several other settings involving automated telemetry and anonymised feedback to Microsoft need to be turned off, so as to minimise the chattiness of the operating system.
